GOCA works with all levels of elected officials regarding legislation that affects Olney.
We review all land use building applications to ensure compatibility with the Olney Master Plan and adjacent communities, and address traffic and environmental concerns.
We maintain the plants on the north side of the intersection of Georgia Ave and Route 108, as well as two “Welcome to Olney” signs.
The Howard Gardner Citizen of the Year Award celebrates the work done by former GOCA VP Howard Gardner to have the State Highway Dept. correct a dangerous curve on Georgia Ave. near Greenwood Park where several accidents occurred.
Our Accomplishments
GOCA was instrumental in getting the Olney library and Longwood Recreation Center built in the early 1970s.
GOCA pushed to have Georgia Ave widened between Norbeck Rd and Route 108, and had the original digital signage for the ICC removed from Georgia Ave.
When the Oaks Landfill was opened in 1982, GOCA pressed the county into building Fieldcrest Road (commonly referred to as “Dump Road”) to prevent trash trucks from all over the county driving through downtown Olney.
GOCA worked with the Chamber of Commerce and Town Center Advisory Committee to paint a “Do not block the box” on EB 108 in front of the shopping center entrance to Walgreens/Royal Bakery.
GOCA supported the creation of Freeman Fields, the Indoor Swim Center, the Skate Park, the police substation at Georgia & Spartan Road, and the Farmer’s Market.
